Conversion of State Police LEIN Network from Poll-Select to TCP/IP. Involved working with four person, self coordinating, team to convert all City, County, State, and Federal Offices’ LEIN systems to new connectivity topology for the Metro Area Network. This project was performed concurrently with the existing 4 hour response break fix contract on all hardware and software within the same scope.
Specific Skills
- Coordination and Scheduling – Required coordinating technicians with SBC scheduling techs to assure efficient transfer of technology within transition window.
- Project Tracking – Switchover required detailed tracking of sites, and individual configurations to assure smooth transition.
- Geographic Scale – Project included sites covering a total of 11 Counties, requiring efficient selection of sites within schedule.
Project 2 – City-Wide Maintenance
Break/Fix Maintenance of Systems for 1 million+ resident City. Involved leading five technician team in maintaining city-wide systems with assistance from depot bench repair technicians. This included system hardware on contract with a 24-business hour maintenance window.
Specific Skills
- Coordination and Scheduling – Required coordination of technicians into districts within the city, and covering swing repair for excessive calls within individual districts.
- Dispute Reconciliation – Handled reqular meetings with ITS department to discuss progress of ongoing projects, and answering calls and complaints from departments.
- Project Scale – Project included equipment varying in age from new to over 30 years old with equipment types including Terminals, PCs, Servers, Mini-computers, VAX II Mainframes, printers, Document Imaging equipment, and Connectivity.
Project 3 – Ongoing Upgrade Path
Due to the rapid growth of the industry served, clients could rapidly outgrow their existing end-point solution. As each client progressed and grew, the field support staff would grade clients needs and decide when to upgrade them to a more appropriate end-point technology. This led to a rather unique task of “trying to hit a moving target”, while also needing to plan ahead on all moves.
Specific Skills
- Coordination and Planning – Due to incompatibilities between the technologies, each client upgrade would require advanced planning and scheduling to make sure that connection was ready to be switched manually at both ends.
- Diversity of Tasks – service would require that the technicians would have a thorough understanding of diverse technologies, and be able to recognize the limitations of each in widely varying environments.
- Project Variance – Projects could include anything within a scope of simple dialup configuration, pulling cable, configuring PCs to Mini-Computers and Mainframes, consulting on server hardware, or Soldering and Board level repair; often without advance knowledge of the problems existance.
Project 4 – Internet Services Install, Selection
For services provider, install and configure multiple servers to provide internet-based services. Configure and secure Mulitple client Web Server, Email Server, VOIP Server, and Monitoring System.
Specific Skills
- Coordination and Planning – Install and configure selected technologies in order to provide simplest maintenance.
- Diversity of Tasks – Install required installing and testing multiple vendors solutions and verifying security issues with each.
